Where can I find a woman who looks like you, lyrics by Kostas Kofiniotis

Kostas Kofiniotis was one of Greece’s leading lyricists of the 20th century and, while he worked in all genres, he played a significant role in creating some rebetiko classics in the 1930s, credited as either Kostas Anatolitis or Kostas Rhapsodos.

Anatolitis is fitting: he was born in Magnisia in Anatolia (Asia Minor) in 1906. He arrived in Greece early in the 20th century, likely as part of the population exchange of the 1920s. Over the course of his life – he died, reportedly of heat stroke, during a particularly brutal heat wave in Athens in July 1987 – he is credited with writing lyrics for more than 600 songs, working in all genres.

Where can I find a woman who looks like you is probably his best known song. The music was written by Antonis Diamantidis (Dalgas), who also first recorded it in 1939. Since then, it has been recorded by a number of performers, including rebetiko revivalist Babis Goles.

Where can I find a woman like you?

I’ll give you riches and if you’re looking for them

Don’t send me away, you’ll ruin me
