Kostas Karipis (real name Karipopoulos) was another one of the accomplished musicians who arrived in Athens from Istanbul as part of the population exchange wth Turkey.
He quickly found work as a guitarist and singer, and started composing rebetiko songs: Many of them have become classics. Between 1925 and 1940, he recorded more than 135 songs as either composer or performer, working with Vamvakaris and other giants of the genre.
It’s not known when he died, but he continued to perform and record up until 1951, often working as guitarist in Vasili Tsitsanis’s ensembles.
You’re Giving Me a Hard Time Again was recorded in 1936 by Rosa Eskenazi, with Karipis on guitar and Stelios Chrisinis on bouzouki.
